Position

Many visitors spontaneously associate Filipstad with Wasa crispbread. However, Filipstad is also Värmland's third oldest town, having received its city charter as early as 1611. This is due to its mining tradition, which has a long history here. For four centuries, from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century, mining was the most important employer in the region. Today, its history is an important part of the local cultural heritage, which can be admired in many places throughout the municipality of Filipstad. Moreover, you'll find plenty of nature here, perfect for hiking, paddling, and fishing. Even those interested in geology won't be bored. Filipstad is located approximately 50 km north of Kristinehamn (via Route 26) and about 60 km northeast of Karlstad (via Route 63). Both routes intersect in Filipstad. Route 26 continues north towards Vansbro, while Route 63 continues northeast towards Hällefors and Kopparberg. Filipstad is therefore a transport hub in the east of Värmland.
